  1. Follow up Prof. Helen Cullington on the Neurelec processors:

I asked our Cochlear representative in the UK and they said ‘Saphyr Neo sound processors continue to be supported through our repair programme, including repairs provided free of charge, even when devices are outside of their original warranty period’

Could the person contact the Cochlear rep in their country and ask if the same scheme applies?

  2. Follow up Prof. Helen Cullington on the birth rate and paediatric CI question: the UK birth rate has reduced substantially in the last 10 years (by about 14%).
Paediatric CI in the UK has stayed stable ish, or decreased a little if you ignore the Covid years.

Do you see the same pattern in Germany?

    • Dear Helen,
thank you for this information!!! We will post it.
I just found on Internet that approx. 650.000 – 680.000 babies were born in the UK in 2025.
If we accept the assumption that 1 in 1.000 is very hard of hearing or deaf it would mean that
there are 650 – 680 babies who would qualify for a CI.
The number who receive it is significantly less for reasons you mentioned in your presentation.
It would be interesting to compare this with other countries, e.g. Germany.
Despite the fact that the population in Germany (83 Mio) is much higher than in the UK (70 Mio) the total number of babies born is practically the same.
654,241 babies were born in Germany in 2025 according to final figures from the German Federal Statistical Office. [1]
We should now find out how many get a CI .
      KInd personal regards
      Monika
